Pennsylvania Custody Evaluators Get Immunity

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Considering the lack of training, and little time these people have to get to know these families, and after all the complaints I’ve heard from fit loving parents, I’m not sure I support this law.

From the Pennsyvania Standard-Journal Online:

Law aims to cut down frivolous complaints in custody hearings

HARRISBURG — Legislation authored by Sen. Jake Corman (R-34) that will curtail the filing of frivolous complaints in child custody hearings and provide limited immunity for child custody evaluators recently became law when it was signed by Governor Ed Rendell.

Corman’s Senate Bill 845 became Act 175 of 2006 and will prohibit any person who is a party to a child custody hearing from filing a complaint against a court-appointed health care or behavioral health care practitioner who is making recommendations on the child custody agreement or court order. The prohibition will be in effect prior to the issuance of the final order and for 60 days after.

Michigan Child Custody Bill Fails, All Not Lost

Friday, December 15th, 2006

From the Daily Telegram:

Supporters of a state bill aimed to make parental custody rights more equitable saw the measure fall one vote short of advancing from its House committee Tuesday, deadlocked 4-4 with Rep. Dudley Spade, D-Tipton, not voting.

Rep. Leslie Mortimer, R-Horton, sponsored the Equal Parenting bill, HB 5267. The bill in most divorce cases would have created a presumption of equal or near-equal custody unless parents reached their own custody agreement…

…In hearings Wednesday, 47 people spoke or otherwise expressed support for the bill, while 16 offered opposition…

…“The big frustration is Rep. (John) Stahl (R-North Branch), the chairman, for whatever reason, let this thing sit in committee since October of 2005 and bought it up for a committee hearing last week,â€? [Rep. Dudley] Spade said.

Bill supporter Brett Frye of Adrian, a spokesman and board member for the Family Rights Coalition of Michigan, said he was encouraged by the committee hearings and expects similar legislation will be introduced next session.

Iowa Only Cares About Women?

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Press Release
November 10, 2006

In his first act as governor-elect, Chet Culver has aborted Iowa’s 200,000 divorced dads. Culver did so by appointing Bonnie “wanted posters” Campbell to a policy position in Iowa government. Culver announced that Campbell will be chair of his transition team.

As Iowa’s Attorney General, in those few moments that she wasn’t running for governor, herself, Bonnie Campbell introduced the practice of putting the faces of divorced dads on wanted posters. She claimed that they were deadbeat dads, but some of the moms later
acknowledged that they were receiving direct support from their ex-husbands.

As Attorney General, Campbell also issued an attorney general’s opinion interpreting the “primary aggressor rule” in domestic abuse law. In so doing, Campbell directed all law enforcement officers in the state, in every case, to consider the primary aggressor to be the party who is taller, heavier, and has greater upper-body strength. Guess who that’s going to be?

Then, when Campbell was appointed to be deputy U.S. attorney general for women’s issues under the Clinton administration, she was on television in Washington, D.C. the next morning stating that all she cared about as attorney general of Iowa was women’s issues.

Chet Culver has put this anti-male, anti-father zealot in charge of his transition team, where she can set policy for his administration and put like-minded anti-male zealots into critical positions on Culver’s staff, in charge of state agencies, and on critical state boards and commissions.

As a result, Iowa’s 200,000 divorced dads have the dubious honor of being the first group of Iowans to be stabbed in the back by Chet Culver.

Toddler in state custody after father dies in homeless shelter

Associated Press

PADUCAH, Ky. - A 14-month-old boy was hospitalized after going unattended in his crib for as much as a day after his father died at a western Kentucky homeless shelter, officials said.

The boy was dehydrated, but otherwise OK after being taken to an emergency room in Paducah on Thursday, McCracken County Coroner Dan Sims said.

The boy’s father, Charles McCormick, was found at the River City Mission on Thursday afternoon. Sims said McCormick appeared to have died from a gastrointestinal hemorrhage within 24 hours of being found. No autopsy will be conducted.

The Kentucky Department for Children and Family Services took custody of the child.

Bryan Partain, director of operations for the shelter, said McCormick moved in about two months ago after he was separated from his wife. McCormick had sole custody of his son, and the mother had no visitation rights, he said.

“How Can I Strengthen My Troubled Marriage?”

from DivorceWizards:

Recent statistics suggest that 50% of all marriages will end in divorce. In Southern California the divorce rate is purported to be even higher, somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-75%.

EXPENSE:

Mediation is much less expensive than litigation. An average divorce can easily cost as much as $30,000. A mediation can cost as little as $3000 including completion of all the legal paperwork. From Keeping the Humanity in Divorce by Deborah Vaupen.

Over 160,000 divorces are filed in California…60% are now done without lawyers according to Ed Sherman in How to do Your Own Divorce In California published by Nolo Press. Californians are saving over a half a billion dollars every year in unnecessary legal fees.

Fighting for custody in a Court can cost a lot - at least $15,000-$50,000 for each side.

F4J-UK: Judge Pulls Gun On [Jolly] Roof Top Santa

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Press Release

28th November 2006, 7.45am

Judge Pulls Gun On Roof Top Santa

A protesting roof top Father Christmas is being threatened by a Judge toting gun after scaling the mans house at Glebe Lodge, Farringdon, near Exeter.

Jolly Stanesby, a high-profile Fathers 4 Justice activist scaled the Judge’s roof in a Father Christmas outfit and has unfurled a banner that reads ‘Put the Father back into Xmas.’

Mr Stanesby, aged 37, from Ivybridge, Devon said he has supplies to last several days and plans to spend a week on the roof of Judge Tyzack who sits at Plymouth County Court on Family Cases.

A Fathers 4 Justice spokesman said, “Judge Tyzack is one of the UK’s worst judicial offenders when it comes to refusing fathers contact with their children. This protest marks a renewal in a campaign of direct action against judges who deliberately block contact between children and their fathers, especially at a time of year when families should be together.

Further protests are planned at the home of former President of the Family Division, Dame Elizabeth Butler Sloss at Marsh Green, Exeter and Mrs. Justice Bracewell who owns the Lynch Country Hotel, Behind Berry, Somerton, Somerset.

Watch Out Who You Flirt With!

From: A Come-on For Hire

On a recent Thursday night, a young, green-eyed model named Cheryl Cosenza was sizing up a married lawyer at a Manhattan bar. Although she had never met him before, she knew the name of his favorite drink and could murmur the songs of his favorite band. For that night, she dressed conservatively, just the way he liked. She glanced at him and ordered a glass of wine. He nonchalantly paid for it, walked up and sat down beside her.

“Honey, would you go with me to my yacht in Florida? he asked after they had cozied up together. I also have a house in the Hamptons if you don’t like to travel too far.

A microphone picked up every word and transmitted the conversation to the man’s wife. Until then, she didn’t even know her husband of 10 years traveled to Florida. And she had no idea he had a house. The last time they spoke, he was filing for bankruptcy.

Cosenza helped the wife obtain proof that her husband was willing to cheat and had the money for a generous divorce settlement.
