Iowa Only Cares About Women?

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

Press Release
November 10, 2006

In his first act as governor-elect, Chet Culver has aborted Iowa’s 200,000 divorced dads. Culver did so by appointing Bonnie “wanted posters” Campbell to a policy position in Iowa government. Culver announced that Campbell will be chair of his transition team.

As Iowa’s Attorney General, in those few moments that she wasn’t running for governor, herself, Bonnie Campbell introduced the practice of putting the faces of divorced dads on wanted posters. She claimed that they were deadbeat dads, but some of the moms later
acknowledged that they were receiving direct support from their ex-husbands.

As Attorney General, Campbell also issued an attorney general’s opinion interpreting the “primary aggressor rule” in domestic abuse law. In so doing, Campbell directed all law enforcement officers in the state, in every case, to consider the primary aggressor to be the party who is taller, heavier, and has greater upper-body strength. Guess who that’s going to be?

Then, when Campbell was appointed to be deputy U.S. attorney general for women’s issues under the Clinton administration, she was on television in Washington, D.C. the next morning stating that all she cared about as attorney general of Iowa was women’s issues.

Chet Culver has put this anti-male, anti-father zealot in charge of his transition team, where she can set policy for his administration and put like-minded anti-male zealots into critical positions on Culver’s staff, in charge of state agencies, and on critical state boards and commissions.

As a result, Iowa’s 200,000 divorced dads have the dubious honor of being the first group of Iowans to be stabbed in the back by Chet Culver.

VIDEO: How Prayer Saved Stormy’s Marriage

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

I enjoy Beliefnet.com because it respects all religions, as I do. I came across a section called Preachers & Teachers, “nuggets of wisdom, inspiration, and advice,” and it sure is.

VIDEO: Stormy Omartian, author of The Power Of A Praying Wife and The Power Of A Praying Husband answers the question

“How Can I Strengthen My Troubled Marriage?”

from DivorceWizards:

Recent statistics suggest that 50% of all marriages will end in divorce. In Southern California the divorce rate is purported to be even higher, somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-75%.

EXPENSE:

Mediation is much less expensive than litigation. An average divorce can easily cost as much as $30,000. A mediation can cost as little as $3000 including completion of all the legal paperwork. From Keeping the Humanity in Divorce by Deborah Vaupen.

Over 160,000 divorces are filed in California…60% are now done without lawyers according to Ed Sherman in How to do Your Own Divorce In California published by Nolo Press. Californians are saving over a half a billion dollars every year in unnecessary legal fees.

Fighting for custody in a Court can cost a lot - at least $15,000-$50,000 for each side.

Parent Activist Murtari to Be Released From Prison; Protesting Father to Have First Meal in Four Months

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Nov. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ — Family rights activist and AKidsRight.Org’s founder John Murtari will be released from prison Friday after spending four months incarcerated for “willful” failure to pay child support. Murtari denies the charge, saying support was calculated with a salary he no longer had, and travel expenses to see his son exceed the amount ordered after the courts allowed his ex-wife to move their son across the country.

Inspired by Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Murtari embarked on a peaceful protest July 31, the day he reported to serve his 6- month sentence. For 10 days Murtari had no food or water. Medical personnel tried to tempt him with candy, and threatened not to intervene. He lost 27 pounds and suffered dehydration, low blood sugar, low blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat before prison officials gave him a feeding tube.

Murtari’s pleased he’s been able to expose the need for family law reform on television, radio and in newspapers. He says he’s received over 100 letters while in jail. A rally was held in Syracuse with attendees from as far away as Canada, and he was interviewed for the documentary Support? System Down.

Members of AKidsRight.Org are asking for Congressional hearings and passage of a Family Rights Act. “Mothers, fathers, grandparents, families dealing with Children’s Protective Services, they all describe the same problems with family courts,” says Teri Stoddard, blogger on the worldwide family law reform movement. “There is no due process; parents are losing custody without proof of wrongdoing, without even a trial by jury. And the whole child support system is a disgrace, driving some parents into poverty and others out of their children’s lives.”

Murtari will continue his attempts to get a meeting with Sen. Hillary Clinton for local parents. When asked what comes next he replied, “We’re planning another rally, in front of the Federal Building in Syracuse, for mid-February. Every family that’s been hurt by current family law, every parent or grandparent who grieves for a child ’stolen’ by the family courts, should attend.”

Murtari says he plans on doing some “restaurant hopping” when he’s released, and will be on a plane to see his son within days.

Woman Spends Thanksgiving On Billboard

Shelly Barreras says sometimes you have to do whatever it takes, in a peaceful way, to get results, especially when you’re dealing with government.

New Mexico Governor Richardson has apparently reneged on a promise to help the Barreras family recover $15,000 collected by the state as child support from Steve Barreras, for a child that never existed. more…

Dr. Phil = Misandrist TV

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

Dr. Helen got it right when she posted this to her blog Sunday:

Misandric TV

Take a look at this clip from youtube…on the Dr. Phil Show… The video clip shows the willingness of this misandric psychologist to pander to his female audience without any regard for men’s Constitutional rights or equality of reproductive choice.

Unbelievably, Dr. Phil takes the position that a man should be forced to be a father, even when his girlfriend lies to him about her medical condition, birth control and the level of responsibility she is willing to take before they have sex…

If a man lied to a woman in a similar fashion, you’d better believe that he would be ridiculed and held up as a loser…

Here’s the video:

Dr Helen adds:

Yes, these daytime talk shows like Dr. Phil are silly and not worth watching for the most part, but that does not mean that they are harmless. All of us who care about equal justice in the courts for both women and men would do well to pay attention to the cultural messages that shows like this send out…

Apparently, the young man’s views are a joke to the host and females in Dr. Phil’s audience but they should not be to the average American male. Perhaps it is time for a man’s version of The View or other countershows that teach the American public that men’s issues, views, and rights are as equally important as women’s in the American cultural and legal system.

So, what are your thoughts on male reproductive choices?

North Dakota Bureaucrats Desperate To Defeat Children’s Bill, Why?

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

One has to wonder why North Dakota bureaurats would be so desperate as to break the law to defeat a bill that would benefit their state’s children. What would cause normal, everyday people to lie, use taxpayer money and their positions to rally illegally against a bill that would bring stability to children after divorce? The answer is obvious, but I’ll get to that later.

First, I’d like to dispell the rumors and lies that have been spread through an efficiently organized campaign of opposition.

It’s been said that North Dakota would lose more than $70 million dollars in federal monies if measure 3 passes. Dr. Wade F. Horn, Assistant Secretary for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services has dispelled this lie in a letter to Ms. Carol K. Olson, Executive Director of North Dakota’s Department of Human Services dated September 27, 2006. (link)

It’s also been said that this measure would harm children financially, that there would no longer be child support. Aside from the fact that all parents support their children financially when they’re in their care (meals, housing, etc) whether custodial or noncustodial, the truth is child support would still exist.

Like California and other states, North Dakota would simply calculate child support based on both parents’ income instead of just one. No longer do we live in a 1950’s society with most moms staying home while dad works. Today, most mothers work outside the home and have their own income. And we can’t ignore the fact that studies show shared parenting increases compliance to child support orders.

One common myth is that shared parenting is unsettling to children, that they won’t know where they’ll be sleeping night-to-night. Ask any child with shared parenting if this is true and they’ll tell you, “No.? Children with shared parenting adjust to their lifestyle just as well as children who are new to overnight day care, camp, visiting grandparents or any number of situations where they sleep away from Mom’s house. The most important thing for a child’s stability is consistency. Keeping both parents actively involved in a child’s life after divorce benefits them.

Children with shared parenting talk about having two neighborhoods, two sets of friends and family, not two houses, but two homes. The number one complain of children of divorce is losing contact with one parent. Shared parenting assures that won’t happen. While opponents claim forcing couples into shared parenting increases conflict, studies show just the opposite; shared parenting reduces conflict. (Bender, W.N. 1994. Joint custody: The option of choice. Journal of Divorce & Remarriage 21 (3/4): 115-131)

Opponents want voters to think that measure 3 will force every family into a strict 50/50 timeshare. The truth is every family will work out the timeshare that best benefits their children. Factors such as the age of the children, school, extracurricular activities, location of parents’ homes, etc, will all be taken into account. Parents will write a parenting plan together, one that can and should be adjusted as the years go by and circumstances change.

Domestic violence organizations claim that shared parenting puts women and children in danger. The truth is less than 1% of all divorces are families involved in domestic violence. Considering the fact that all shared parenting bills include provisions to protect these families, why are we punishing the children in the other 99% of divorces?

Domestic violence organizations also allude to the fact children will be forced to spend the night with fathers who sexually abuse them. Aside from the fact that mothers commit most child maltreatment (link), studies show fathers are the least likely to commit sexual abuse (link). The most common adult perpetrator is a male acquaintance of the child’s mother. Keeping fathers close to their children protects them.

There are a multitude of studies showing the positive aspects of shared parenting on children and families. (link)

So, with all of these benefits to children, why are certain organizations opposing measure 3? How does that phrase go? Oh yeah, “Follow the money.? The people who are showing acts of desperation are those who fear losing their jobs. In an email to his directors (on your taxpayer dime), one government employee wrote, “…’talk it up’ in your communities about the ‘terrible impact’ these measures can have…?

So my questions to the citizens of North Dakota are these: Who are you going to listen to, people who organize illegal coalitions and spread lies to keep their jobs, or children who’ve been through divorce, both with and without shared parenting? What are you going to believe, lies and rumors spread as fear tactics, or multiple reputable studies showing the benefits of shared parenting to children?
