John Murtari maintains his faith, 109 days after giving up solid food to highlight the need for family law reform. This week that faith paid-off. Yesterday Murtari was interviewed by film producer Angelo Lobo for the documentary “Support? System Down,” as well as a local television crew and newspaper reporter. Today his story appeared in the Associated Press.
This Courier-Journal article describes Kentucky parents telling the Blue Ribbon Panel on Adoption that the state takes their children unnecessarily and doesn’t return them in a timely manner. They also say foster homes are chosen over relatives’ homes, causing extra distress to children.
These complaints mirror comments made by parents nationwide. Groups have sprung up across America and around the world to fight CPS’s irresponsible actions. A study done in California showed that half the children removed from their parents and put in foster care should have been allowed to stay with their parents.
A cat, Mimi, nurses what its owner Cassia Aparecida de Souza claims are Mimi’s own offsprings born with dog traits last Friday, three months after mating with a neighbour’s dog, in the southern Brazilian city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul state, November 15, 2006. A geneticist from the Passo Fundo University plans to take blood samples from the animals to verify the claim by Cassia and her husband Rogerio that the puppies are part of Mimi’s litter of six, of which the three that were born with cat features died soon after birth, leaving the surviving three dog-like offsprings. Sliding Versus Deciding:
Inertia And The Premarital Cohabitation Effect
Abstract:
Premarital cohabitation has consistently been found to be associated with increased risk for divorce and marital distress in the United States. Two explanations for this “cohabitation effect” are discussed: selection and experience. We present an empirically based view of
how the experience of cohabitation may increase risk for relationship distress or divorce for some people beyond what is accounted for by selection. Specifically, using a commitment framework, we suggest that some couples who otherwise would not have married end up married because of the inertia of cohabitation. We discuss practice implications for relationship transitions that are characterized more by sliding than deciding, especially where a transition such as cohabitation increases inertia to remain in a relationship regardless of quality or fit.
